District Supervisors

Billy Joe has served as a Supervisor for the Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District since 2002 and is currently Chairman. He and his wife Alice are owner-operators of a beef cow-calf and crop farm in Liberty Township.  conservation practices installed on the Walker farm include fencing to exclude cattle from creek banks, riparian buffer establishment, spring development, farm ponds, interior fencing for rotational grazing and enrollment of land in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).  Livestock are excluded from timberland.  The Walker Farm received the Goodyear Farmer of the Year Award in 1993 and the River Friendly Farmer Award in 2005.  Billy Joe and Alice are both bus drivers for the Crawford County School Corporation.  Billy Joe retired from the Paoli School Corporation after 32 years.

Kenny has served as a Supervisor for the Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District since 2009 and is currently Vice-Chairman.  Kenny and his children live in Eckerty.  He was raised on a diary farm in Crawford County.  His parrents are the late Jerry and Addie Sturgeon of English.  Kenny attended Penn State where he took courses in fire protection systems and he is also a heavy equipment operator.  His occupation includes installing practices related to NRCS such as ponds, lakes, development of springs, wascobs and watering facilities.  Kenny is also a member of the English Volunteer Fire Department.  He has always had a passion for helping others and being a volunteer firefighter makes that possible. He is very happy to be a member of the Crawford County Soil and Water Conservtion District Board of Supervisors and hopes to make Crawford County a better place to live.

Andy has served as a Supervisor for the Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District since 2008 and is currently the Treasurer.  Andy, his wife Allison and their daughter, Allie, live on a 39 acre Angus seed stock operation near Milltown.  He is the agriculture teacher at the Crawford County High School and also the co-owner of Howell Cattle Company.  Andy is very active in the Southern Indiana Angus Association where he is currently vice-president and state director.  He is a 10-year 4-H member and is actively involved in improving the Crawford County 4-H livestock program where he has been the 4-H livestock superintendent since 2005.  Andy has installed many conservation practices on his farm including heavy use areas, forest stand improvement, watering facilities and prescribed grazing on his farm.

Richard has served as a Supervisor for the Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District since 2005.  He has lived in English for over 20 years.  Richard is a self-made businessman, he created and runs Sun Oak Kites and also runs Sun Oak Trading Post with a partner.  He owns the 150 acre Sun Oak Farm, most of which is forested and in tree plantations.  He has 70 acres of Classified Forest and 18 acres in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP).  Richard is active in state forestry issues, including sitting on the State Forester's Forest Resources Coordinating Committee since 1994 and worked with the committee that established the Forest Legacy Program in Indiana.  He is concerned about the sustainability of Crawford County's most abundant renewable resource and is working toward more assistance for landowners who own forest.

Richard Langdon

Garry has served as a Supervisor for the Crawford County Soil and Water Conservation District since 2010.  He has lived in Crawford County for 56 years in Union Township.  Garry and his wife, Bobbi, live on 139 acres and own and operate a beef cattle farm.  Garry works for the Crawford County Highway Department as a truck driver.  Garry also devotes time to the Indiana High School Athletics as an official for numerous sports.  He recently installed water systems for his cattel, as well as a heavy use area.  He had a 1.1 acre pond built in 2009.  Garry plans on seeding the farm in 2011 and building another pond.  He is concerned about the role of small farmers in today's society.  He wants to learn more about how he and others can improve their farms.
